Who we are
This website is operated by Em Rowan Art (emrowan.com). It is a portfolio and online shop for handcrafted illustration prints. We take your privacy seriously and collect as little data as possible.

What data we collect and why
Strictly necessary — no consent required
We store two small items in your browser’s localStorage to make the site work:
- Shopping cart (
em-cart) — the items you have added to your cart so they persist across page navigations and if you close and reopen the tab. This data never leaves your device until you proceed to checkout. - Cookie preference (
em-cookie-consent) — your accept / decline choice, so we do not show the cookie banner on every visit.
These are not tracking cookies. They contain no personally identifiable information and are not shared with any third party.
Analytics — only with your consent
If you choose “Accept analytics” in the cookie banner, we load Google Analytics 4 (GA4). GA4 collects:
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- General geographic region (country / city, derived from IP — the full IP is never stored)
- Browser type, device category, and operating system
- How you arrived at the site (search, direct link, social media, etc.)
- Shop funnel events: product views, add-to-cart, and checkout initiation
We use this information only to understand how the site is used and to improve it. We do not use it for advertising. No data is sold or shared with any third party beyond Google’s own processing of Analytics data.
We have enabled Google Consent Mode v2, which means the GA4 tag loads in a restricted mode by default and only begins collecting data after you explicitly accept. If you choose “Essential only”, no analytics data is sent for your session.
You can opt out of Google Analytics at any time using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by clearing your cookie preference (see below).
Accepting also enables PostHog, a product analytics tool that records the same kind of information — pages visited, device and browser details, and shop funnel events such as add-to-cart, checkout initiation, and commission requests. Until you accept, PostHog is loaded in an opted-out state that stores nothing in your browser and sends no events; if you choose “Essential only”, it records a single opt-out flag in localStorage so it stays disabled.
Payments — Square
When you proceed to checkout you are redirected to a payment page hosted by Square. We never see or store your card details — all payment processing is handled entirely by Square on their infrastructure.
Square collects the information necessary to process your payment and fulfil your order (name, delivery address, email, and card details). Their handling of that data is governed by the Square Privacy Policy.
Data retention
We do not operate a database of customer records on this site. Order and customer information entered at checkout is retained by Square in accordance with their policy and applicable legal requirements.
Analytics data in Google Analytics is retained for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the UK or European Economic Area, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request erasure of your data
- Object to or restrict processing
- Withdraw consent for analytics at any time
To exercise any of these rights, or to withdraw your analytics consent, please contact us at contact@emrowan.com. You can also clear your cookie preference at any time by clearing your browser’s localStorage for this site, which will show the cookie banner again on your next visit.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
